Morning call - Lack of catalysts for breakthrough
07/06/2024

Summary

On Thursday, the Dow rose 0.2%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite shed 0.02% and 0.09%, respectively. Those moves came a day after the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite notched new record highs as signs of a cooling US labor market fueled bets for two Federal Reserve interest rate cuts this year. Data released on Thursday showed that initial jobless claims rose more than expected last week and labor costs in Q1 were revised lower.

VNINDEX closed at 1,283.56 points (-0.79 points, -0.06%), with liquidity matching the average of the past 20 sessions. There were 200 stocks gaining and 224 stocks losing. Stocks that contributed to the market's increase included STB, TCB, and BID, while VNM, HVN, and VIC contributed to the market's decline. Foreign investors continued to net sell about VND 734 billion.
