Morning call - Market tug-of-war, foreign investors continue to sell strongly

Summary

Last week, the Dow shed 0.02%, the S&P 500 lost 0.13% and the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.7%. Those moves came as stronger-than-expected US inflation data raised concerns that the central bank could further delay interest rate cuts. The Fed is widely anticipated to hold rates steady this week, while expectations for a June rate cut edged lower to about 55%.

 

VNINDEX closed at 1,263.78 (-0.48 points, -0.04%) with high liquidity. The market had 217 stocks increasing and 249 stocks decreasing. The stocks that contributed to the market's uptrend were GVR, GAS, BID. On the contrary, the stocks that contributed to the market's downtrend were VIC, VCB, VHM. Foreigners sold net strongly, with a total value of 1,305 billion VND.
