All three indexes completed a week of gains, although insecurity about the US and European banking systems remained like a dark cloud hovering in investors' minds. For the whole week, Dow Jones gained 0.4%; The S&P 500 rose 1.4%; and Nasdaq rose 1.6%.
Stocks in European stocks had a red session, with the region's Stoxx 600 index closing down 1.37%. Germany's Dax index fell 1.66%; Britain's FTSE lost 1.26%; and France's CAC fell 1.74%.
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has reassured investors when saying that Eurozone banks are still solid because of their strong capital and liquidity. She also said the ECB could provide liquidity to the financial system if needed.
