Morning call - A sudden sell-off hit the market at the end of the day
06/09/2024

Summary

In regular trading on Thursday, the Dow and S&P 500 fell 0.54% and 0.3%, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.25%. Those moves came as a set of labor market data provided mixed signals about the US economy’s health. Private payrolls growth in August was the weakest since January 2021, while weekly unemployment claims declined, offering some relief. The conflicting data, which also included a drop in job openings, contributed to concerns about a potential recession and the Fed's approach to rate cuts.

VNINDEX closed at 1,268.2 points, down 7.59 points (-0.59%) with average trading volume. The market saw 118 gainers and 285 decliners. Stocks like VHM, VIC, and VNM contributed to the market's gains, while VCB, FPT, and GVR weighed on the index. Most sectors declined, except for real estate. Foreign investors were net sellers of over 684 billion dong.
