Morning call - Slowly moving towards 1,300
09/07/2024

Summary

In regular trading on Monday, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite gained 0.1% and 0.28%, respectively, with both benchmarks closing at new record highs. Meanwhile, the Dow fell 0.08% after giving back intraday gains. Those moves came as latest data showed that US consumers' 1-year inflation expectations fell for a second straight month to 3% in June from 3.2% in May. Investors now look ahead to US CPI and PPI data this week, as well as Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s testimony before Congress for fresh clues on the path for interest rates

VNINDEX closed at 1,283.56 (+0.52 points, +0.04%), liquidity increased compared to the previous session but continued to maintain a level lower than the 20-session average. The market has 243 green codes and 214 red codes. The group of stocks contributing to the market's uptrend includes GVR, PLX and MWG, whereas VCB VIC and SAB contributed to the market's downtrend. Oil, gas and fertilizer groups increased sharply during the session. Foreign investors net sold about 2,264.87 billion VND, focusing on HDB, STB and FPT.
