Morning call - Danger escape
17/04/2024

Summary

In regular trading on Tuesday, the Dow rose 0.17%, helped by UnitedHealth which popped 5.2% on strong quarterly results. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite lost 0.21% and 0.12%, respectively, extending their declines to a third straight day. Those moves came as Fed Chair Jerome Powell said the central bank needs to see more progress on the inflation front before starting to cut rates. Investors now look ahead to more earnings reports on Wednesday from U.S. Bancorp and Travelers.

VNINDEX closed at 1,215.68 (-0.93 points, -0.08%) with liquidity increasing compared to the previous session. The market had 140 green stocks and 361 red stocks. The group of stocks that contributed to the market's decline included VCB, VIC, and VNM. On the other hand, the group of stocks that contributed to the market's increase included TCB, BID, and CTG. Foreigners returned to net buy lightly at VND 71 billion.
