Morning call - Increasing correction pressure


In regular trading on Thursday, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite advanced 2.11% and 2.96%, respectively, their best one-day gains since early 2023. The Dow also climbed 1.18% to fresh record highs. Ten out of the 11 S&P sectors finished higher, led by technology, consumer discretionary and communication services. Existing-home sales in the US rose 3.1% month-over-month to a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 4 million units in January 2024, the highest level in five months, compared to 3.88 million in December and market forecasts of 3.97 million.


VNINDEX closed at 1,227.31 (-2.73 points, +0.2%) with liquidity maintained at a level higher than the average of 20 sessions. The market had 217 green stocks and 263 red stocks. The group of stocks contributing to the market's increase were TCB, VIC, and VRE. On the other hand, the group of stocks contributing to the market's decline were VCB, HDB, and FPT. Most industry groups fell. Foreign investors sold net relatively strong.
